AgenticAPI is a specification initiative led by industry pioneers focused on evolving APIs for the age of intelligent systems and AI agents. Built on an open, vendor-neutral framework, AgenticAPI transforms traditional API design with a task-oriented approach that introduces action-based semantics. This enables APIs to communicate more naturally and effectively with AI agents
Our goal is to enhance, not replace, everything APIs already do well: trusted contracts, secure access, orchestration, and scalability. Proposals like Model Context Protocol (MCP) and agent-to-agent (A2A) communication have gained interest because APIs were not originally built to express actions, intent, or natural language context. These protocols attempt to fill that gap but introduce unnecessary layers and miss the full set of capabilities that modern APIs already support.
AgenticAPI bridges this gap. It introduces an intuitive verb-based model such as SUMMARIZE, COMPUTE, and NOTIFY, along with semantic discoverability, contextual execution, and orchestration support, all within existing API infrastructure. Our ACTION taxonomy replaces CRUD with six task categories: Acquire, Compute, Transact, Integrate, Orchestrate, and Notify.
Our vision is a world where APIs support developers, systems, and AI agents equally, while maintaining the reliability, governance, and interoperability that power today’s internet.
Let’s evolve the interface.
Mission Statement
Evolve APIs into action-oriented, secure, and semantically rich interfaces that enable intelligent systems to interact with clarity and intent.
Vision Statement
A future where APIs natively support intelligent automation through contextual understanding, task execution, and seamless agent-to-system communication.
